Virtual prototyping of a synthetic aperture radar processor and RASSP benchmark 1

چکیده

A virtual prototype of a synthetic aperture radar processor is being created by Lockheed Sanders. It includes VHDL models and Ada application code. The virtual prototype is a behavioral and structural model which matches the hardware architecture which was selected as part of this effort. A s part of the RASSP program, we are answering the question: "How can one use VHDL to validate hardware / sofhvare trade-offs and reduce the l i f . cycle cost of digital systems?" The current status is that the virtual prototype has been completed and we are now entering into a hardware prototype phase which will validate the virtual prototype.

RASSP Benchmark-1 and -2: A Preliminary Assessment*

These two benchmarks required the development of a virtual prototype and a hardware prototype, respectively, of a Synthetic Aperture Radar processor. The two RASSP Developers chose different approaches: one used COTS components on custom boards with a methodology emphasis on detailed VHDL prototyping and board design and one used COTS computer boards with a methodology emphasis on efficient VHD...

Projecting RASSP Benefits

Benefits of a RASSP-based design approach have been identified as a result of benchmarks defined and evaluated by MIT Lincoln Laboratory. One benchmark task, development of a synthetic aperture radar signal processor, serves to illustrate the effects of design trade-offs and tool usage on acquisition cost, development time and life cycle cost. Parametric cost estimation tools are used to predic...

Rapid Prototyping of Application-Specific Signal Processors (RASSP) In-Progress Report

The goal of the DARPA/Tri-Service-sponsored Rapid Prototyping of Application-Specific Signal Processors (RASSP) program is to reduce the cost and time to develop and manufacture signal processors by at least a factor of four. Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Laboratories’ (ATL) approach to reaching this goal is based on three thrusts: methodology, model-year architecture, and infrastructure ...

Virtual Benchmarking and Model Continuity in Prototyping Embedded Multiprocessor Signal Processing Systems

The complexity of hardware/software codesign of embedded real-time signal processing systems can be reduced by rapid system prototyping (RSP). However, existing RSP frameworks do not provide a sound specification and design methodology (SDM) because they require the designer to choose the implementation target before specification and design exploration and they do not work together coherently ...

Managing Latency and Buffer Requirements in Processing Graph Chains

Real-time signal-processing applications for high assurance systems are commonly designed using a processing-graph software architecture. Here we demonstrate the management of latency and buffer requirements in such an architecture—the US Navy’s processing graph method (PGM). By applying recent results in real-time scheduling theory to the subset of PGM employed by the US DARPA rapid prototypin...
